Office XP professional stopped working. HELP!!!

I just opened it on the 5th and it worked fine. Now it will not open any
documents (says they don't exist). It will open in safe mode but still won't
open the documents. When I try to open the documents from there location word
doesn't go past the start up screen. The documents open fine in word pad and
note book but not like they should. What could be the problem? I've installed
all the updates for it and everything.

If you start Word first, can you then open the documents via the Open dialog

No. When I try to open Word first I get a messege saying word didn't open
properly the last time so start it in safe mode. I press okay and none of my
documents will open. I went to the detect and repair, that reconfigured word
but it still doesn't work. So now I'm thinking, could it be because I'm
running it on Vista?

Okay, I just tried again and noticed it says requesting virus scan...won't go
past that. So I tried to open Norton and it doesn't work either. So maybe I
found the problem? Word won't open without being scanned for a virus? Going
to the Norton site.

Not quite... the Office Plug-in under Advanced Options in NAV often causes
problems with Word and should be disabled. This will not affect your
security.

However, NAV should run - so I guess that you are starting in the correct
area in sorting NAV first.

You need to disable the Office Plug-in in Norton AntiVirus.

Thank you all for the advice. I tried it all, nothing helped so I had to
uninstall NAV. Microsoft suggested I get a new anti-virus software for vista
and made suggestions of the ones I should use. I am protected with defenders
but not as protected as I want to be. So I guess I will try one of their
suggestions.
