I am having serious trouble with Office XP being slow in almost every
program. Here is the symptom and how I replicate it.
Open Word: takes a few seconds but nothing strange
Go to the Format menu, select Font: Word appears to hang so I open task
manager and it says "Not Responding" for Word. Check the processor load and
it is at 0%. If I wait for about 5-10seconds it will open the font window
and everything seems normal. Once I have opened it once it seems to work,
but doing other things like trying to put an equation into a document will
show the same behavior.
Also, running macros in Excel does the same thing. It will work eventually,
but so slow that I swear the program has frozen.
I have reinstalled it twice, removed all virus scanning programs (after
scanning and determining the machine was clean). Nothing is hogging the
processor, it just slows to a crawl for a few seconds and then works.
Any suggestions? I don't really want to format and reinstall windows, but
that is the next step if nobody has a solution.
