Office XP S-L-O-W opening directory

I recently upgraded from Win 98SE and Office 97 to Win XP
Pro and Office XP. All my office applications open, but
when I click on the "look-in" box to open up the directoy
tree, it consistently takes 68 to 72 seconds to display
the directory. Can anyone sugest a fix for this ?

Remove any mapped drives from My Network Places that point to locations
which are no longer available.
