Office XP Service Pack 3 and Office 2003

I have been running the full retail version of MS Office Professional Version
2003 since March of 2004. My operating system is XP Professional which has
all patches up until SP2 installed. When I go to the OfficeUpdate site, I am
prompted to install the Service Pack 3 update for Office XP. I've ignored the
Service Pack 3 prompt in the past since none of the products listed (i.e.
{product name} 2002) are installed on my computer and it has not affected my
downloading subsequent Office Updates that apply to Office 2003.

I guess I have two questions. 1) Why is the website prompting me to install
Office XP product updates when I am running Office 2003? and 2) Will it
create problems with my installed software if I go ahead and install the
service pack just so I don't have to deal with the prompt to install SP3
anymore?

Thanking you all in advance for your time and consideration...Juli

Hi Juli,

In Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel check
for any 2002 series products that may be listed. A common
one is MS Word 2002 from the MS Works suite.

In general, you won't create problems by installing the
recommended updates. Be sure you have the necessary CDs
available.

Hi Bob,

Was momentarily puzzled by your response as when I got this pc I
specifically ordered it with WordPerfect so there would be no version
conflicts with my planned installation of Office 2003. Fortunately I decided
to follow your advice anyway.

A check of the installed program list revealed that I *am* still using a
stand-alone version of FrontPage 2002. Mystery solved thanks to you. And I
might add, much quicker than technical support I have paid for in the past.
Thank you so much.

Juli
