Office XP setup - This patch package could not be opened.

I am running windows xp home edition with windows
installer 2.0+

When running office xp setup I get the error "This patch
package could not be opened. Contact the application
vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer
patch package."

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 295823 has a solution
for this but..... it is only for for Microsoft Windows
Installer versions prior to 2.0. In other words it
addresses Office XP installs on operation systems other
than XP.

Unfortunately, my Office XP is an oem version and gateway
has no clue.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greately appreciated.
