Office XP Shortcut Bar problem

Help! The icons that have been on my Office Shortcut Bar
for nearly three years disappeared last night. I can't
figure out what happened.

There are icons in the shortcut bar now... but they're
different and they can't be changed.

Any way to resurrect what I had?

Right-clicking on the puzzle logo and going
to "Customize" and then "Buttons" shows me everything
there is just as it was. The programs are checked.
Also, it would see that the icons for such (unchecked, in
my usage) items as Open Office Document, New Message, are
the ones appearing in the Shortcut Bar. The functions,
and the tooltip text, indicate Word, Excel, Outlook,
Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher.

Can you right click in an empty area of the toolbar and select refresh?
