Office XP Shortcut Bar Won't Start Automatically

Chris Burson

I run a fabulous little program called 'Startup Control Panel' (I think!) by
Mike Lin which enables me to enable/disable all the programs that start on
boot up. In an effort to speed up the boot time, I unchecked two boxes
relating to Office. Both end with 'OSA.exe' - and I think one is from Office
97 and one from Office XP (I run Excel 97 & Word 2002).

Having disabled them both, the Shortcut will not launch on boot up and even
if I exit it, and select 'Start When I Start Windows...', it doesn't. How
can I repair my over-zealousness?

Cheers,

Chris

Obviously I have tried re-checking the boxes! (I forgot to mention that
before...)

Hi, Chris,

That *was* going to be my first question...<grin>

However, if you have selected 'Start when I start Windows', then it sounds
like your control panel might be overriding that. I'd contact Mr. Lin to
find out how to get them back, especially since re-checking the boxes would
be the intuitive way to do it.

You could try re-installing Office, which certainly wouldn't hurt anything.

Thank you, Susan. Yes, I realised that leaving the obvious unsaid was just
asking for trouble...

Anyway, I ran the Word 2002 set up again and was offered an option to
'Repair Damaged Files' (or similar) which seemed like a good place to start.
But alas, it hasn't made the Shortcut Bar appear on boot up. I've no idea
where I downloaded the Startup Control Panel program from, but will have a
mooch around. If any bright ideas spring to mind in the mean time...

Cheers,

Chris
