Office XP Small Bus to Office Pro Ed 2003 Install Problems

I'm currently running Office XP Small Business Edition on a 2.0G system w/ XP Home Edition. I've keep the system updated w/ all the appropriate updates from the MS website. I'm trying update my Office suite w/ Office Pro Ed 2003 (Home Use Edition). When the install procedure gets to the point where I have to enter the product key, I'm not allowed to type any characters in the appropriate spots. Essentially, the procedure seems to freeze up. Before I know it, the procedure shuts itself down and I'm back to square one. What could be going wrong? Since I have XP Home Edition, do I need to install XP Pro Edition to load this Office 2003 edition? HELP!
