Office XP SP-1 requires new Office CDs?

R

Rolf Barbakken

A customer recently wanted to upgrade the network installation of Office XP
Pro with SP-1, but received an error as described in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315063

But MS support claims he needs a new set of CDs to upgrade to SP-1. It is
not a huge sum of money, but is this really true? Are there differences
between the first set he received and the CDs he will receive if he buys
Office now?

Does the CD have the Office Hologram? If not then it may not be a
legitimate copy.

Additionally are they saying they need a replacement CDs or that they
need to purchase a new licensed copy of Office?

Yes the hologram is there.

The customer opted to buy new cd's anyway (the price isn't too high), and
the hologram on the new cd's are different - darker, kinda.

MS only said the customer needed to buy new cd's - not new license.

Hi Rolf,

Then I don't know what the problem is exactly. Sorry!

But if they are purchasing replacement CDs then the cost should be
minimal.
