Office XP SP3 .msi Problem

P

Peter Nguyen

I have the Enterprise verion of Office XP and installed it individually on
every computer in my network...On some computers, I can install SP3 and use
the same installation CD just fine, while others will not because it is
looking for the retail CD which I know for a fact was installed w/ the same
Enterprise CD...I looked in the registry and noticed that on the non-working
machines, the installer for Office XP is looking for proret.msi while the
working machine is looking for pro.msi....Why the difference when the same
CD is used...? How can this be fixed other than uninstalling/re-installing
Office XP...?

Hi, Peter,

This might help:

828451 - Why service packs, updates, and security patches may require the
Office XP CD-ROM:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=828451

There is a variety of reasons...

On the machines that are asking for proret.msi, do they also have installed
any other Office family application, such as Project, Publisher or Visio?
You might supply that CD when prompted. That is often the case; the msi
files can have the same name; hence the confusion for the Windows Installer
and you.
