Office XP Sp3

I am trying to install Office XP Sp3 (OfficeXpSp3-
kb832671-fullfile-enu.exe). I am currently running
Windows XP with Office XP Sp2. This should allow me to
install without the initial source. Unfortunately, it
wants to look for the source & even if I browse to the
PRo.msi, it states it is an invalid package.

Any suggestions.

Yes.

It needs the same type of CD you used to make the original install. For
instance, if you used an OfficeXP Pro CD, you can't use OfficeXP
Standard for the installation.

If it's any consolation, Office 2003 doesn't suffer from this problem.

I am definitely pointing it back to the installation
source from which the office package was installed.

I even installed OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-fullfile-enu.exe
on other machines successfully without it asking for the
source.

Hi, Michael,

Unfortunately, the full file patches don't *always* work:

840169 - Full-file version update may request Office source files:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;840169

Was your computer pre-installed by the original equipment manufacturer?
They may have installed Works with Word. Other Office family applications
(Publisher / Front Page) can cause this to happen. Check in the Windows
Control Panel to see if you have other versions of Office installed, or
other Office family applications (including Works with Word). It may be
that the Windows Installer is asking for that CD.

If the CD you have does not match the installed version (check for Pro*.msi
using Start=>Search or the methods in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290134&FR=1 )
then you may need to contact the PC supplier to provide the matching CD or
backup your files, uninstall the copy on the PC restart the PC and install
from the CDs that you do have.

It is also possible that the installation you have has been damaged. From
Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel choose the Microsoft Office
listing and see if you can successfully complete a repair/reinstall using
the CD you have.

Susan,

Thanks for the input. The KB article was very
informative. In order to resolve the issue I re-installed
MS Office. Once that was completed, I was able to install
SP3 without it asking for the source.

Thanks for your help
