Hi all,
Apologies if this matter has been covered recently, I did a search on google
groups, but to no avail.
Basically, I'm wondering what the current due date is for the next service
pack for Office XP.
A little while back I came across a fairly fundamental problem in word,
namely that when printing a specific page range in book fold mode, it simply
didn't work. Various pages were missing, misplaced, and sometimes layered
over the top of others. Microsoft looked at the problem, admitted that it
was a problem within word, and said that it would be fixed in either the
next service pack, then due out in October, or the next version of Word.
I have called Microsoft, but didn't get a terribly specific answer, and
given that it took a good half hour, and that I need to use a mobile, I
didn't fancy trying again.
My main concern is that this doesn't go the same was as a problem with
PowerDVD did, where I came across a fairly fundamental bug. I was assured
for best part of a year that a solution would be provided and that they were
working on the problem, despite a newer version of the software having been
released in which the bug had actually been fixed. Eventually they just
said the problem was unfixable.
As an aside, I would be extremely grateful if anyone using Office 2003 could
see if the problem has been fixed. To generate it, in Word, simply:
Create a new, blank document.
Under 'Page Setup', on the 'Margins' tab, change 'Multiple pages' to 'Book
fold'.
Insert 7 page breaks to give you 8 pages.
Insert Page Numbers.
Print pages '4-5', (you may want to enable 'Manual Duplex', although this
doesn't affect the problem).
According the instructions, you should get a single sheet of paper with
pages '4,5' one side, and '6,3' on the other. What I actually get is two
sheets, blank one side with '8,4' on one, and '5' on it's own on the other.
If you choose to print all pages, it does however work correctly.
Any help, advice, or comments you could provide would be very much
appreciated.
