I am trying to update my daughter's Office program with
SP3. She has a student version of the 2003 standard
edition. halfway through the instalation the program
tries to find PROTRET.MSI on the Office XP Professional
CD which we don't have. How is can I get the SP3
installed for her version?

I think you're trying to apply the wrong service pack. SP1 for Office 2003
just came out. A few people are beta-testing SP2 for Office 2003. There is
no such thing as SP3 (yet) for Office 2003. You cannot apply Office XP SP3
to Office 2003.

Peter, this is a recommendation to update Office XP or Office 2000. I'm
guessing that you upgraded over a legacy version of Office, and there are
still some remaining applications from the legacy product. If you're not
using the older applications, you can uninstall the older Office product to
avoid this confusing Office Update behavior.

Sloan, I have Office XP Standard for Students and teachers. I tried to update
with SP3, was asked to insert the CD which I did and a window opened saying
it could not find sberet.msi. I could not continue with the update. Can you
offer a solution to this problem or maybe the SP3 update is not for Office XP
Standard?
