Office XP Speech Reconition

I did the voice training sessions for the Speech Recognition program that
comes with Office XP. I can now have the program type for me but can't have
it read text. The "Speak Text" and "Pause Speaking" buttons and the language
tool bar are grayed out. I can't find a way to set these two button so they
will work. Can anyone help with this problem?

Hi Sandra,

If you're in Windows XP the Text-to-speech features
are available from Windows. If you're not on that
version of Windows the text-to-speech feature in
Office XP is in Excel, only, although you can make
it work in other apps:

Check in the Windows Control panel to see if
the text services are active for the language bar.

I have Windows XP Operating System with Office XP. I just trained the
program to type but can't figure out why I can't get it to speak what is
written. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Sandra,

Have you checked the 'speech' icon in the Windows control
panel to see if the language bar and text to speech are
enabled? It's a separate function and utility than
you dictating to Office.
