Office XP Standard Upgrade - can't install due to invalid product key error msg!

In attempting to install my Microsoft Office XP Standard
sofware (upgrading from Office 97), I receive an error
message stating that my product key number is invalid. In
trying to obtain online support, a "Product ID" number is
required...a little difficult to obtain when you are
unable to load the software.

Any suggestions on how I can resolve this problem and
install my new software????
