Office XP stops responding when files contain picture objects

I have an Excel file and a Word file that contain a picture object. The
application stops responding when you try and open either one of these files.
It appears everything displays except for the picture object. I have tried
unistalling and reinstalling Office XP, recreating the files with a new name
in both Office XP and 2003, and installed service pack 3. The files work on
any other PC. If I remove the objects and have the user open those files,
the files open without a problem. It appears it has something to do with the
picture objects on that user's PC only. Any suggestions.
