Office XP templates with macros

Hi gurus,

Daughter's PC running Office XP. When they log on as Admin, Word etc etc
work fine.

When logged on as non-Admin user, opening Word produces error message about
macros - digital signatures expired. Word is rendered unusable for
non-Admin user.

The errors relate to two templates: aware97.dot (associated with OmniPage
OCR) and palmapp.dot (associated with daughter's Palm Pilot). Both are in
C:\ Prog Files\MS Office\Office10\Startup - actual dot files are there - not
just links or shortcuts.

I logged on as Admin and renamed the two *.dot file extensions to *.doo to
disable them in Startup - Word now works fine for non-Admin user.

Why would these cause a problem with non-Admin user log-on, yet be quite OK
with Admin log-on?

TIA

Pemo

i would first worry about whether the macros in aware97.dot were written for
word 97.
if so, there might be problems using the macros in later versions of word.

when logged in as administrator, you are using different directories than
when you log in as a non-admin.

your evidence would indicate that the macros have some issues to be
resolved,

Yes, one might think that. But of course MS still uses i386 etc, a
throwback to gentler times.

Yes, however templates are in C:\ Prog Files\MS Office\Office10\Startup,
accessed by Office for all users (Word actually, they being Word template
files)

Indeed. Today I deleted both files and all is fine - daughter's Palm Pilot
synchronises - has been flaky for a while :)

Only one minor curiosity - Powerpoint demanded Activation (all other
components were fine). (Office XP Prof had been all installed at the same
time). Went on-line and wasn't even asked for Product Key (greyed) -
Licensee name was already entered - I clicked Submit and it Activated with
zero input from me. Odd.

Yesterday it worked
Today it does not work.
Windows is like that.
