Office XP Updates for Office 2000??

R

Rich

I recently updated the Office 2000 Small Business software on three
computers running W2K SP4 using the online Office Update detection tool.
On two of the systems the tool offered up five Office XP updates in
addition to various Office 2000 updates. The XP updates were: Office XP
Service Pack 1, Office XP Service Pack 2, Office XP Alternative User
Input Update January 24 2002, Office XP Security Patch KB822036, and
Office XP WordPerfect 5.x Converter Security Patch KB824938. Needless
to say I ignored the recommended XP updates but loaded the Office 2000
ones.

Did anyone else encounter this and know what is the cause? My concern
is that perhaps the computers have a corrupted registry. On the other
hand perhaps the tool is flaky.

Hi Rich,

Check in Add/Remove Programs on those machines
to see if both Office XP/2002 and 2000 series
products of the MS Office family are listed.
If so, you'll see both listed as recommended from
