office xp vs office 2003

We need to upgrade our MS office suite at home. We are currently running
Office 97. At work I am using Office XP. Looks like the latest version out
is Office 2003, so it seems like we should go that route. But, I need to
make sure that the files would be compatible whether I created them at home
on Office 2003 or at work on Office XP.

Question - Is Office 2003 compatible with Office XP, and what about my files
that I have created on Office 97, will I be able to still use them?

One more thing I need to add, at home we are running Windows XP and at work I
am still on Windows 2000, is that going to make a difference for the files
being compatible?
