Office Xp will not uninstall

Markus

I'm trying to uninstall Office XP Pro on Win XP Pro. So I
go to the add/remove ald launch the uninstaller. After 15-
30 sec I get the Error message saying "Installer
terminated prematurely", followed by "Teh I/O operation
has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an
application request". When searching for these symptoms
in the knowledge base I was recommended to defrag teh
disk, which I have done. No improvement.
When I try to add an office service pack, or a update, I
get similar behaviour.
I feel like I'm stuck here and would really appreciate
some hints, even to a more brute force approach to
getting rid of OXP so that I can load Office 2003.

You can try to install Office 2003 without uninstall Office XP.
By default, Office 2003 will uninstall Office XP for you.
If you still see the same problem then, I think you should call Microsoft
PSS.
They can do remote assistance to check it your Office XP installation file
is corrupted or not and try to fix it.

Good luck.
