Office XP won't file associate

D

Dave

Hello,

We had office 2000 on a pc. We started having some file
corruption. We had bought Office XP so we decided an
uninstall of Off2000 and fresh install of OffXP was in
order.

First, upon installing OffXP, which appeared to go
smoothly, the outlook had all of our email, contacts, etc
in it. We should have had to import our .pst backup. This
was our first redflag. Second, when opening existing word
documents (or other office related docs as as xls, mdb,
etc) we get an error message stated there is no file
asssociated to perform such action. When looking at file
associations, there is in fact .doc, .xls, etc
associations with the correct application.

We have uninstalled/reinstalled, rebooted and run 2
different registry cleaners. Still the exact same problem.
We did turn off our Anti-virus prior to install each time.

Any ideas? Please email them directly to me if possible.
Thanks!

Hi Dave,

I think the following might help.

1. Close the program that you need to register.

2. Click Start and then click Run.

3. In the Open box, type the following

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\<program>.exe /unregserver"
(without the quotation marks)

where <program>.exe represents the appropriate program file for the program
that you need to register. If you installed Office to another location, use
the correct path for your location.

4. Click Start and then click Run.

5. In the Open box, type the following

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\<program>.exe /regserver"
(without the quotation marks)

where <program>.exe represents the appropriate program file for the program
that you need to register.

6. Reinstall the program to correctly register the program in the
Windows registry.

There is more information in the following Knowledge Base article.
298019 OFFXP: Error Message: No Program Is Registered to Open This File
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=298019

I hope that helps!
