Office XP won't load after upgrading from 98SE to XP Pro

I installed Win XP Pro over 98SE on a notebook given to me by my employer. The previous owner had istalled MS Office XP. When I try to open one of the apps, I get an error saying that "Microsoft Excel (or Word, etc.) has not been installed for the current user...please re-install." This isn't an attempt to share the software as I'm pretty sure the originals are just gone

Problem: I don't have the Office XP disks to re-install.

Is there any workaround?
Thanks

Contact your employer to get the disks.

Then you better find someone who has the disks - because Office XP is
not going to work until you reinstall it properly in XP in order for
the registry to be updated. No work around that I know of.
