Office XP won't uninstall or reinstall

R

Ray-VC

I tranferred my old hard drive files to a new hard
drive. The new hard drive has a drive letter "D" the old
hard drive was "C". I am trying to uninstall Office and
then reinstall it. When I try the following message
comes up.
"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the
patch package exists and that you can access it, or
contact the application vendor to verify this is a valid
windows installer package." This happens when I try to
install, repair or uninstall Office XP pro.

Hi, Ray-VC:

It sound like the Windows Installer is confused, since you changed around
the hard drive lettering.

What version of the Windows Installer are you running? Use these steps to
find out, if you don't already know:

1.. Locate Msi.dll on your computer. By default, this file is in the
\Windows\System folder on Microsoft Windows 98 computers, or the
\Winnt\System32 folder on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 computers.
2.. Right-click Msi.dll and then click Properties.
3.. Click the Version tab.
