Office XP Word 2002 - units showing on ruler

Irrespective of which units of measure I set under Options, General, the
visible ruler appears in what I believe is "pica" format. I wish to use
"inches" and "inches" shows on the "Page Setup" menu but not on the visible
ruler. Am I missing something?
