Office XP Word/Excel Crash when inserting text over the keyboard

We are facing a problem with a customer installation which have migrated
from Office 2000 to Office XP with Windows XP below.

The behavior of Word XP is that on some documents the applications just
crash away. This happens on newly created documents which do have
templates from the office 2000 suiet as it base an also on documents
which were saved with office 2000. We haven't noticed yet that this also
happens on plain documents which have the standard 'normal.dot' coming
with the XP Suiet as the document base.

Has anybody face a similar problem. The Office suiet is on the latest
service pack level.

best regards,

I'm not sure I follow the exact problem here.

What do you mean when you say, the application crash "when inserting
text over the keyboard". Do you mean when you select text and type
over it? Are you referring to the Overtype mode?

If you can give us more details and the text of the error message it
would be helpful. :)

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

The Problem occurs if you just start typing text over the keyboard in
normal inserting mode. No text is selected. The cursur is just being
placed behind or in front of some existing text. However this also
happens when you are editing a new document which does not have text in
it. We actually tried to find out a solution with the local support hot
line, however they claimed the it could be quiet possible that this
happens when you work with documents comming form older Versions.

We were coming to the conclusion that we down grade all existing Office
XP Licences to Office 2000. Since it just works. We also noticed strange
problems with Excel when we receive documents from the out side. I.e.
complaining that tables names are ilegal up to crashing of the
application. Again with Office 2000 no problem at all with these documents.

Do others experience problems with Office XP in a mixed environment?

Best regards and thanks for the help,
