Office XP Word security fix errors

I started encountering errors opening word files after installing latest
security fixes from the MS site. I can't open any files and receive the
note that the file is not available. When I try to close word, the program
wants me to save the Normal Template file, even if I haven't typed a single
character. I reinstalled Word, but continued to encounter the same problem.

I had the same problems in Excel, but that was corrected after re-installing
Office.

My machine had MS Works and I installed Office XP on top. Word worked great
until installing the security updates.

Any solutions?

I have this exact same problem with Word 2003.

Do you have problems with Excel, too (I do)?

Oops... I should have read your complete message...

However, after re-installing, I still had the same problem... both Word and
Excel.

I finally got the whole office product to work after searching for
officeav.dll and renaming it to officeav.dll.old and restarting machine.

It all works nice now.
