Office XP

I work at a school, we have Win98 on the computers for the
kids. We have loaded office XP. On some of the computers
it is working fine and on others, when you are in word,
you do not see the letters when you type, instead you see
a black strip appear where the letters should be. Any
idea what is causing this and how to fix it? Thanks
