MS Office basic was pre-installed on my old Compaq in
200. I recently bought a new computer and would love to
know if it is possible to retrieve the programs (MS Office)
and install them on the new computer. I am not a complete
dweeb on computers but damn close.

No on two counts:
1) Pre-installed Office Basic is an OEM liscence, so can't be moved to
another PC.
2) If you don't have the instalation disk, you can't install it, copying the
files won't work.
