Office

I've just bought a new laptop with Vista and I'm looking to purchase a
version of MS Office. I don't want the version which I think is 97 with the
new ribbon along the top, I've tried this under trial and 2 months in I
cannot see how this is an improvement.

Can someone advise which version of Office apart from 97 is compatiable with
Vista or is there a clever setting which changes the way it displays menus
etc.

Many thanks for any responses.

It's 2007 with the ribbon. If you can't stand it, older versions of
Office (2003 is most recent) would only be available from eBay and
amazon new & used.

The only version that is truly compatible with Vista is Office 2003. You MAY
be able to buy a copy new still if you look hard.. The prior versions will
work, but there are some niggles, mainly to do with Outlook.

Not all that hard.

Go to amazon.com, select Software as the search category and Office
2003 as the search term. Many hits. Many sellers with new
(shrinkwrapped) Office 2003 units, and many of those sellers with
decent customer ratings.
