3/6 of our pc's now freeze when you try and 'save as' and click the pulldown
menu to explore your save location. This occured just after this new patch
on Tues 4/12 was installed. Please help this could stop all work in the
office. Running Windows XP 2003 pro.

Microsoft's Tuesday update caused the problem.

Go to Add/Remove programs in Control panel and uninstall the K**08531 update
and it will fix your problem until MS fixes it.

April 11/06 update has now been overwritten by MS Office service pack 2. Not
only that it says that this update cannot be removed. Problem still there.
In believe you that the patch caused this, and all my mapped network drives
are connected (I've seen other solutions try this)

If Word has started hanging on File>Save As and File>Open in the last couple
of days, this is because of a problem with a recently released Hotfix.

You can remove it from Add/Remove Programs, where it shows as "Security
Update for Windows XP (KB908531)". Make sure the "show updates" box at the
top is ticked or you won't see hotfixes in the list.

This Hotfix doesn't cause this problems on all PCs so don't uninstall if you
aren't having this problem, as it fixes a vulnerability in Explorer.

That test looks strangely familiar!
FYI i understand Microsoft are aware of this so fingers crossed for a fixed
fix soon.

for anyone reading this with the same problem DO NOT allow service pack 2 to
install before you delete that update, hoping that there is a fix in there.
You will NOT be able to see the update after service pack 2 is installed.

i'd lilke to kick that code writer in the balls for this one.
