Office2003 SP2 update

Rather than automatic updating & installing MS updates, I download the file
and install 'by hand' since I have two other PC's to update. Besides, the
first option takes ages to complete.

After installing SP2 update (which is confirmed by "Help | Info" indication
in the Office applications), I'm still notified by MS Automatic Updates
Service that I have to install the update. Update history does indicate that
SP2 has not been installed.

How can I work around this problem (besides ignoring the update notification)?

Thanks - Louis

I too would like a work-around for this. I have three systems that needed
this update. One of the three installed successfully, two did not. The two
that failed have Office2K installed side-by-side with O2K3. The only parts
of O2K that are installed are the office assistant and the office shortcut
bar. The sytems that fail go all the way through the SP2 install process,
failing at the very end with the version mismatch error. As in your case,
Help/About in Word or the other Office apps says that they are now updated
to SP2, but the system still says it needs the update. I've tried
un-installing O2K and O2K3, then re-installing O2K3 first - no luck. None of
the fixes suggested here work.

According to MS documentation (no, I don't have a link and I don't have the
time to find it. If anyone from MS reads this and actually cares, they can
find it without much trouble.), O2K and OfficeXP are supposed to coexist
with O2K3. There is even a procedure available that explains how to
re-install O2K after installing O2K3, with the specific goal of
re-installing the office shortcut bar.

The O2K3 SP1 update apparently took into account the possibility that other
versions existed on the machine, and correctly installed in spite of the
prescence of the earlier rev. This latest update did not. I can't think of
any explanation except a flawed installation package. There is no excuse -
someone seriously screwed this one up.

So, are there any plans to re-release SP2 in an install package that works
properly on a machine with an earlier version of Office installed
side-by-side?

Tx for replying.

You might also check the update install log "OHotfix(nnnn).log", most
probably in ..\Docs & Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\OHotfix\

According to this log, the SP2 update was well executed. Let's wait (and
hope) if some MS expert can help us out. - Louis

M did you try using the FullFile patch at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...cc847/Office2003SP2-KB887616-FullFile-ENU.exe
on the two machines that the update failed?

For Microsoft AutoUpdate currently we are working on a solution. Best is to
ignore for now. Other solution is to install SP2 again and most likely will
not offer you again.

Just noticed the MS update notification on SP2 is no longer there.
Nevertheless, SP2 update is not included in update history.

The patch below is targeted for Dutch language (NLD). The link I sent to you
should be for English. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks

There's no notification any longer.
Small matter, though: the update is not included in my update history on the
MS Update site.

Try doing a repair install, then try the update again:

Method 1 – Open Word, go to Help – Select Detect and Repair

or use Method 2 -

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair,
and then
click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair
errors in my
Office installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

Most likely you will need to have your Office CD handy.
