Office97 Shortcut Bar

When I click on the buttons New Office Doc or Open Office Doc, A window opens with options to select like a blank Word or Excel Doc or existing Docs on my drive. However, when I select one of these blank docs or existing docs, the window disappears and nothing opens - no docs appear. I have reinstalled Office97 SR-1, removed and reinstalled it, but no help. My OS is Win98 FE.

I found that you can eg start Word, then File/New ,the window with templates
opens and any template will then open correctly. All docs open correctly
from My Documents.

Thanks DL. I was also able to add more buttons (right click on the shortcut bar and select configure) for excel, word and power point to my shortcut bar and they work. However, the default buttons I started this post with still do not work.

Have now discovered this/my problem is being caused by another App. Namely
my Silicon Image raid utility app, its written in java, and runs on startup.
Stopping this app has cured this and other odd Office probs

I found the culprit DL. My conflicting App was part of NetZero, my ISP. They have a program called NZSearch, which when disabled, fixed the problem. I have removed the NZSearch folder and all related registry entries.
