Office97

I have Office97 on a laptop running Windows 98. I
recently purchased a Dell desktop running WindowsXP. Can
I install Office97 on the desktop and then upgrade to
OfficeXP? I thought I read that trying to install
Office97 on a machine running WindowsXP can cause
problems.
Obviously, I don't want to spend for the full OfficeXP
Professional version if I can go with the upgrade version.
Thanks,
HF

As you have the Office 97 installation media, you do not need to install
Office 97 on your new computer to install the upgrade version of Office XP
{any retail edition}.

When the installer asks for qualifying media, remove the Office XP CD and
insert the Office 97 CD and point to it. Then return the Office XP CD and
continue.
