OfficeXP - Can't Merge Password Protected Excel file

Can someone please help me!

I'm having having a huge problem merging a password protected Excel file into Word. If I take the password off it workd just fine. What happens is as soon as a select the file to merge it the Data Link Properties window pops up, which it didn't do in Office2k. Then whether I hit cancel or ok I get this Error "ODBC Excel Driver Login Failed" and inside the message it says "Could not decrypt file." And then it wont merge the files. I can't find any help in the knowledge base or anything. Can some please help me?

Use UNC path instead of Mapped Path.

I think I had almost the same error with ODBC failure. I put together a VB6
app that reads data from a MS Access database. I successfully loaded on all
Windows 2000 PCs. I installed on a Windows XP / Office XP workstation and
started getting the ODBC error which didn't make any sense at all. This is
a misleading error message in my opinion.

This program first launches a logon process that uses different creditials
to logon as a different user account that has access to folders that normal
users do not have access to.

The catch was that with Windows XP I could not use a mapped path I had to
use the UNC path. Ex. S:\Public\Myfiles will not work but
\\servername\shared\Public\Myfiles does work.

It turned out one of the tables I used to get data was a linked table and
the link was a mapped drive path. I used Link Manager in Access to show
what file actually was the data holder for the data I needed. I then
pointed to that file using the UNC path. Everything worked after that.

Hope that does the trick.
