OfficeXP re-install

I'm having problems with a MS OfficeXP installation on a
Windows 98 machine. The problem started when the desktop
icons would not launch the OfficeXP applications. So
decided to use the repair function of office XP. I went to
the add/remove programs icon under the 'Control Panel' and
highlighted the Windows Office XP professional item in the
list of installed products and clicked add/remove. A
message came back indicating that OfficeXP was not
installed !! But the software is under the program
files\microsft office\office10 directory. So I thought I
would re-install from the OfficeXP cdrom. I then came
across an error message stating 'The MSI.DLL file is
linked to missing export
NTDLL.DLL:NtQueryInformationProcess' I have tried re-
installing the Windows Installer software Instmsi.exe and
the ISscript.msi but they all complan with the same
message! I have have tried following the MKB article
229819 but I get a message saying the service is already
running ! Can some one please help me
