OfficeXP won't install on Vista

A

Andy Laszlo

Hello all,

I tried to install XP onto a copy of Vista, but I get the message
'Wrong OS or OS version for application' .

I am sure that OfficeXP is supported on Vista as this KB says so -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932087/en-us

Has anyone else had these issues? It could be that only certain versions
Service Packs are supported. How would I get an updated CD?

Any thoughts?

Andy

Office XP should install on Vista but it will not run properly, Outlook
has issues and there may be others.

You misread, only Office 2003 and Office 2007 are supported on Vista.

You might be able to get some functionality from Office XP but you'll
probably have to upgrade to Office 2003 or Office 2007 to get
everything working properly.

In the KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932087/en-us it states the following as per the paragraph below

<snip>
Microsoft Office 2000, Microsoft Office XP, Microsoft Office 2003, and the 2007 Microsoft Office suites are all supported on Windows Vista. The 2007 Office suites were extensively tested on Windows Vista for best compatibility.
<end snip>

But it also states and written in the same KB this paragraph below

<snip>
Because Office 2000 and Office XP are in Extended Support, there have been no fixes for issues that occur when these products are run on Windows Vista. For more information about the support policy status on these versions and on other versions of Office, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
<end snip>

The main issues that someone would run into is with Outlook. See the link below

For Office 2000 there is a workaround for the wab issue

That's basically an untrue statement, both Office 2000 and Office XP
have bugs when run under Vista. I've always been surprised MSFT
wouldn't change that statement.

Of course they know there are issues which makes the first statement
even more surprising, MSFT *KNOWS* it's not true (notice how "not true"
is PC for "a damned lie"!)

Not a fix, not even an acceptable workaround IMHO and, from what I see
here, that's not the only issue with Office XP.

Repeat: If you want MS Office to run on Vista WITHOUT ISSUES, it'll
have to be Office 2003 or Office 2007 (or Open Office which may create
it's own issues.)
