Offline email

We are running office xp on xp connecting to exchange
server at corporate office. All WAN machines work
offline, performing send/receive every 15 minutes. This
works great if outlook is open, but we would like to run
outlook similar to a service, always running in the
background, therefore always sending and receiving email,
whether the program is open or not. Any ideas on how to
accomplish this?

Outlook cannot be set to run as a service, except through a misconfiguration
where Outlook is "officially" closed but the .exe is still running in the
background.

Misconfiguration - well, somehow I have that happening because I close
Outlook (corporate setup) and it always still receives - I have to reboot if
I want to stop it from doing so.

Use CAD and close the Outlook.exe runner. It usually happens because:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.
