Offline usage really not working

Okay, so I just switched to Mac, paid a fortune for a full license MS Office (including entourage), and darn, the Entourage program just doesn't work like my previous outlook express/outlook. I can't seem to use the offline mode to my satisfaction.

Like many others, there are frequent times I wish to use my computer when there is no internet connection (or I don't want to be connected)... a long plane ride is an example, so is sitting at a coffee shop for a few hours. During this time, I want to plow through my hotmail, respond, delete, sort emails... I did this all the time with my previous Vaio laptop.

It seems that using "Offline" on Entourage is mandating I have a constant connection to the internet... I can't really delete mails, and I can not move them to other folders either. Keep getting the "Do you want to go Online?" pop-up.

This is really annoying, and it has made my entourage virtually useless. I live in China (bought my computer in the US), and switched to Mac for the security issues, since many PC's get quickly bugged up here... and the Mac provides a bit more security since the hardware is closed tight, and the OS is not yet known as much to the powers that be here.

Dearest Microsoft, by any chance do you have any plan to fix this with an update anytime soon? I would like to get back to using my hotmail with my Entourage (used it all the time with Outlook Express)... but the offline mode is useless. It sync'd so well before... why the change? Can Entourage be brought up to speed?

Anybody know how to solve this issue? I am sure I am not the only one...

Hope to hear soon!

You didn't say what kind of mail service you are using (POP, IMAP, or
Exchange). IMAP keeps messages on the server, so it needs Internet access to
delete or move messages. POP does not.

This newsgroup is NOT closely monitored by Microsoft. You should make your
request for changes to Entourage by using the link Send Feedback to
Microsoft on the Tools menu.

The OP mentions using Hotmail. I'm not familiar with the current state of
Hotmail support in Entourage.

You *can* use IMAP offline, you get a dialog that your actions are being
synchronized for next time you connect.

Work Offline should be working for you. In all of your account, be sure you
select under Options to download the entire message so you will have access
to the entire message. Perhaps you have set to partially download messages
set.

Cheers and Welcome to Mac! I have a few tips and links posted to help new
users here:
