offxp apps "not installed for current user" and other mysteries

Running Windows Xp.Successfully installed and registered
OffXp a few weeks ago. Successful use of WORD and PPT. No
problems. Until today.
If attempt to use WORD or PPT, a dialog box pops up
indicating loading the app. Then another box prompting to
insert CD, followed by message "The path MS Office XP Std
cannot be found. Verify that you have access...or find
STDRET.MSI...." (cannot find STDRET.MSI when browsed).
Then there's error 1706:check your connection...or see
setup.hlp (no help there). Finally,e.g., WORD has not
been installed for the current user.
I'm the only user. No network. OffXP CD was legal and is
reg. w/MS. Did MS scan for necessary updates. None
needed. All installed.
Suggestions? Thnx.
