OFFXP OEM and motherboard replacement

Microsoft phone support told me today that replacing a
faulty motherboard on my 1 day old system has voided the
OEM Office XP Professional licence that I bought with the
system. Can anyone tell me if this is how OEM licences are
restricted. I have never heard Microsoft sales people
explain it this way before, and I think it ludicrous that
one faulty component can render a licence void.

Why are you calling MS for support for assistance with an OEM licence,
anyway? All support for OEM products is from the manufacturer/vendor.
Microsoft do not cannot and will not support OEM - not now and not in the
future.

Perdita, it would be nice if Microsoft, rather then
smother consumers with misleading PR trash, were as
succinct as you in explaining OEM licencing.

I am in small business in Australia and we have always
bought our computers through clone makers. Of the 12 odd
computers I have bought, I have never had an OEM pre-
install OffXPP OEM, though they do install XPP OEM. And
they have never said anything about an OEM licence being
void if a motherboard is replaced. I shall contact the
supplier who replaced the motherboard immediately and pass
the onus back onto them to get OFFXPP OEM reactivated.

Meanwhile, our business is growing too quickly for me to
deal with time consuming software asset management, and we
are getting things outsourced from now on.
