I have office xp for small business. all programs are 2002. When i began to
use microsoft exchange, it required Outlook 2003. All other office programs
remain as 2002. When I check for required updates, updates for office 2003
are always indicated as being necessary. Don't know whether to use entire
office 2003 recommended updates, only those specifically for Outlook 2003 and
also don't know whether installing a general office 2003 to generally an
office xp setup if i am damaging anything or improperly updating with
unforseen dire consequences. Some guidance, please.

Many Thanks.

Hi Jon,

Each of the Office 2003 apps shares core files so you will
be prompted to update 'Office 2003' even when you have only
one app from that family.

The versions (XP/2002 and 2003) update separately and you should
generally be okay using both sets.

As with any computer software update, always a good idea to
backup your files and data before proceeding and periodically.
