OL 2000 Lag

Hello,

I've been using OL 2000 to get e-mail from my ISP (POP server) for years.
Within the last few months, I've noticed that the program just doesn't seem
to be running very fast anymore.

For instance, even just starting up Outlook, instead of showing my folders,
messages, etc. (even before it goes to the server to check for new mail), it
almost seems to freeze for a few seconds, and each of the panes goes white
briefly.

When I click between e-mail messages, the preview pane takes between 5 and
10 seconds before it displays the message. It didn't used to take that long.

Most vexing of all, whenever I'm replying to message, I type but nothing
shows up for several (as much as 15) seconds. I could literally type out an
entire sentence, and it appears that nothing is actually typed, and then the
whole message will appear. It doesn't have a problem if I type messages in
another program (like Notepad) and paste it in.

I'm running Outlook 2000 SP3 (9.0.0.8954) on Windows XP Pro SP2. I've been
keeping up on all the regular updates, and I've deleted all my old sent
messages and emptied the trash.

Any other suggestions?

You might have just accumulated a lot over the years. Try archiving and
compacting to reduce the PST file size. Disable add-ins if you find it is
still slow.

If all else ails back-up your current PST and start with a new one.
