I recently installed Office 2003, over my Office 2000
install. After this install, Outlook 2003 was running
OK. I shut down my networked work computer for the
weekend. When restarting the computer this past Monday,
I could not access my Outlook Inbox. I was able to
access all other Outlook folders (both the standard and
those I created) BUT NOT THE INBOX. The program hung, and
I would have to terminate via Task MGR.
A call to our company IT rep stated Msoft Exch Svr 5.5
has known "performance" issues with XP Pro and/or OL
2003. So, I uninstalled Office 2003 and reinstalled
Office 2000.
Now, Outlook 2000 won't start. It logs me into our
company domain, tries to create a shortcut bar,
apparently creates an extend.dat file, and hangs open.
I have gone through many Msoft approved fixes, including
deleting the frmcache.dat, extend.dat and outcmd.dat
files. I repaired the outlook.pst file, which did have
errors. Outlook 2000 will still not open, and still hangs.
I believe there is a conflict in the registry. I've
confirmed there are 2 "registered" product id's of
OUTLOOK 2000 being recognized during Outlook start up.
One id is recognized while logged in as administrator,
and another id is recognized while logged in as "User
Name".
There is only one executable, outlook.exe, installed on
my computer.
I became aware of an Office uninstall "scrubber" routine,
from theMsoft website, which does claim to fully remove
Office and scrub the registry of old Office install
records. This is my next attempt.
Any ideas??? I'm running XP Pro on a fast Dell machine.
