OL 2003 Calendar Invitations Not Received by OL 2002

I am sending my OL 2002 (XP) colleagues meeting
invitations, but the calendar event never reaches their
inbox. What is strange is that meeting updates to the
same calendar events DO reach their inbox. Why is the
original meeting request not making it through?
