OL 2007-create a distribution list from an email

Tammy

Hi,

Sorry if this posted twice - the first "Post" returned an error, so I'm not
sure if my original question was sent. I waited a while and refreshed the
page, didn't see it, so I'm reposting my question.

I have a user who would like to create a distribution list from an email he
received. We followed the instructions - selected the names from the To
field, copied, MS Office Button, under Create New Outlook Item we chose
Distribution List, then hit the Select Members button and pasted the the
names in the Members box.

The problem is that OL is not recognizing the email addresses. It places the
names in twice - once under the list of member names, and again under the
email address column. The email originated from an email sent using a contact
list in a program called "Blackboard" - used by a lot of faculty members.

One thing I did notice different about the email addresses in the To field
we copied from was that they each had an apostrophe surrounding their names.
Could this, in some way, be blocking the addresses from being copied into a
distribution list?

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Unless you have name/address pairs so that you can see both, what you're
trying to do won't work.

Thanks so much for your response, Brian. I've created distribution lists
before using just names from the "To" field, so this confused me when it
didn't work. But now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure the distribution
lists I've created were from emails including people who were on our exchange
server, so Outlook recognized them and the email addresses (even though only
the names appear in the "To" field). Again, thanks for your response!
