OL 2007 freezes while composing message

Since installing the trial Office 2007, Outlook freezes periodically - always
while in the middle of writing an email. Task manager shows outlook using
100% CPU and I've left it for at least an hour to see if it recovers. If I
end the task and restart Outlook, it works ok.

I have seen posts about transient freezes while typing, and I experience
those also. I went through deleting the frmcache and other files, and
applying a patch that was referenced elsewhere but nothing has helped either
problem. The transient one I can tolerate for now, but the total freeze means
I lose what I have done.

Any suggestions?

I have the same problem on my computer, as does my wife on hers. I like Outlook, but if I cannot resolve this problem we will have to go to Thunderbird.

Hi Claudio,
Since installing the trial Office 2007, Outlook freezes periodically
- always while in the middle of writing an email. Task manager shows
outlook using 100% CPU and I've left it for at least an hour to see
if it recovers. If I end the task and restart Outlook, it works ok.

I have also been hit by this bug. This always happens while typing a
message: you enter the space character, the caret disappears and never comes
back, the Outlook process starts to consume 100% of the CPU time and you
have to kill it and restart Outlook.

This seems to be related to macros. I have one single macro installed in
Outlook: a small piece of code that ensures that items moved to the deleted
Items folder are always marked as read. If I go to Tools | Trust Center and
disable all macros, the problem never occurs. If I re-enable my macro, I'm
sure that the bug will appear at least once during my work day. I have
written this macro when I was using Outlook 2003. No problem. So I know that
this code is ok. Obviously, Outlook 2007 has introduced a new problem.

PS: If any Outlook MVP is interested about this problem and wants details,
I'm ready to help. I'm not an Outlook specialist, so I guess this issue
should rather be reported to MS by an Outlook MVP (if not already done).

Regards.

Thanks. I'll try disabling but I don't have any macros installed, unless the
ShareO program (sharing calendar) uses one. I don't think so however, as it
is listed as a COM addin.
