OL 2k3 Imported Contacted will Not Show up

H

HeatSha

I have imported contacts from OL 2k3 on another machine. I used .csv. It
imports great but will not show up when selecting TO for a new email message.
I have checked of "show the folder as an email address book" and I have
changed the selections in the address book "tools Options" . The only time I
could get anything to show up was when I manually entered one contact ...
additional manually entered contacts did NOT show up. I have done this at
least 100 times or more and is generally straight forward. This has me
stumped ... Now I have started over so many times I am getting lists in the
address book "tools Options" and I want to delete most of them since they
don't apply and can't figure that out... this is a first time use of outlook
2k3 on this machine and is fully updated spk3 and any remaining updates.

Thanks in advance for your response.

As posted MANY times in all the Outlook groups - why did you do that?
Exporting to a csv file and then importing is NEVER the way to move data
from one Outlook to another.
All you need to do is to close Outlook on the one machine, copy the pst file
to the new, and then on the new do File-Open-Outlook data file.

take a look here:

Is the Contacts folder in Outlook 2003 marked as an Outlook Address book?
(Right-click, properties..)

I did this before and mentioned originally, but just as doublecheck, I right
clicked on the contacts folder, properties, and under the outlook address
book, I have checked off "show this folder as an email address book" Contacts
is in the name of the Address book. I assume this is what you ment.

More info ...I tried a new email (just for contact access) clicked on to
....contacts
window pops up ...no contacts listed even though I have setup 2 manually in
contacts folder ...the same above folder...Anyway, i went to advanced and
added a new contact ...it took it fine but does not show up in the select
name windows but is in the contact folder...

Try creating a new mail profile. Control Panel-Mail-Show Profiles-New. Then
add the existing pst file to the new profile. see if that works...

Posts are too sketchy and too short on accurate detail to determine all the
things you might have done wrong. Obviously, if your Contacts folders are
empty, your import was not successful. If you have created a new Contact
with a valid, resolved electronic address in your Contacts Folder and it
does not appear in your Address Book view, then either:
1. You have not configured your address book service correctly or
2. You created the Contact in the folder other than the one you are
displaying in the address book view.
We can't sort this from a distance without more information. Do some
examination of your system and read the instructions on how to configure the
address book view.

I am having the same problem.

I have located an article (several actually) but the MS solution is not
accurate.

Problem definition:

I moved my pst file from a Win 2000 Pro computer running Office 2000 (and
Outlook 2000 SP-1) to a Vista computer (same Office 2000, Outlook 2000).

All my email messages came cleanly. My contacts seem to be in the contacts
folder, but when I open a new message and hit the "To" button, I cannot see
my contacts -- it opens the "Address Book" instead, which has essentially
nothing in it. I don't want to use Address Book, I want my old Outlook
contacts back!

My Contacts folder is there and has contacts in it. It actually has a
subfolder called Chucks Contacts which actually has my original set of
contacts in it. The upper level contacts folder only has addresses in it
because every time I reply to an email, Outlook correctly places the
recipients into my Contacts folder.

The MS solution provided here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/197907/ states
(edited):

CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Outlook requires that you complete the
following three steps before your contact information is available for you to
address messages by using your address book:
• Install the Outlook Address Book service.

How to Install the Outlook Address Book Service
1. On the Tools menu, click Services.

Problem: there is no "Services" selection on the Tools menu.

Note, I have already opened the "Properties" for both the contacts folders
and under the "Outlook Address Book" tab I have checked the box that states
"Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" (actually it is grayed-out for
the root Contacts folder -- I can't de-select it anyhow).

What now?

Thank you in advance for any advice here.

Outlook 2000? On Vista? No wonder.
You would need to use compatible contemporary software for Outlook to
function.

Are you adding the contact by opening the Contacts folder of by using the
Address Book interface? The latter doesn't work.
