OL2002 Turn OFF Name Check...?

Kenneth

Howdy,

In OL2002, I have un-checked the option for "Name Check" in
"Advanced Email Options", and have closed, then re-launched
Outlook.

Despite that, when I attempt to send an email to an address
that is not in my Contacts, the "Name Check" dialog opens.

How can I turn "Name Check" completely OFF...?

Sincere thanks for any help,

Hello again,

To be more specific:

I un-checked "Automatic Name Checking."

Thanks again,

you can not turn it off - outlook must verify the address is valid and if
not, it's going to bring up the dialog. Is the address you entered a
properly formatted internet address? That is the only reason outlook would
do a name check.

Hi Dianne,

I very much appreciate your response, but am a bit confused.

Here is the situation in a bit more detail:

I wish to send an email to someone whose address is not
among my contacts.

I have UN-checked "Name checking" in Advanced email options.

The email address appears to be valid. Its precise format
is:

(e-mail address removed)

Yes, her last name is hyphenated. <g>

When I attempt to send, a "Check Names" dialog opens saying
that Outlook does not recognize "sambob.com" (with the
quotes). It displays only the domain name, and not the
complete email address. The domain name looks fine to me,
and Google likes it too. Then I Google www.sambob.com the
page of this woman's employer opens.

The dialog asks if I want to create a new address for
"sambob.com" (again with quotes, and again just the domain
name rather than the complete address) or Change To. It
offers no suggestions should I wish to make the change.

Is there any possibility that the hyphen is confusing
Outlook? I ask because of its displaying only the domain as
the problem.

I just wanna send the darn email...<g>

Might you have any further suggestions?

Again, please accept my sincere thanks,

it shouldn't be the hyphen... it works correctly here too. It also shouldn't
be the domain, outlook could care less if the domain is valid, it just sends
the mail to the server... the server tries to send and bounces back if it
fails: smbobsambobsambob.com should be acceptable to outlook. Are their any
foreign characters in her name? They could be causing problems.

Name checking enabled would underline her name minutes after entering it in
the address field. With it off, it never should be underlined and only get
checked when you press send, unless you hit alt+k to force it.

That it is only identifying sambob.com as a display name makes it sound like
there is a space, ' or < after the @. do you have a contact for her and are
you selecting it? If so, look at the contact to make sure it's correct and
the address underlined. If a reply, make sure she had the address correct on
the email (it's amazing how many people mess this up - I've had a few from
new internet users that didn't add the @domain half. <g>) If you are typing
it in, I don't know what to suggest, I find it hard to believe anyone could
not see a space or other problem with the address.

Hi Diane,

With your kind help, the problem is solved...

It turned out that (for some reason that I don't understand)
I had a fragment of the complete email address is the "cc:"
field.

Very sincere thanks,
