OL2003 appointments vanish after synch

I'm using Outlook 2003 on Windows XP in Cached Mode on an
IBM Thinkpad, connecting to an Exchange 2000 server. When
I connect to the server after being off-line, all my
calendar appointments--except for the ones configured as
recurring--vanish from the calendar completely.

I couldn't find anything helpful in the KB--I'm not using
any sort of delegate access.
