OL2003 Crashing

T

I am experiencing a problem with a single email sender causing my OL2003 to
crash. I send the error report to Microsoft every time. Is there a way to
follow up with Microsoft to find out what the error report is showing? These
emails are from a sender from which I have been regularly receiving email
without a problem for a long time. The problem just started happening about
a week ago. Any ideas?

Error reporting is anonymous. If you want direct support from Microsoft,
you'll have to contact them.
As for other ideas, it is impossible to tell what is going on without
knowing any details.
For starters; what is logged to the Event Viewer regarding this?

OK, I found the Event Viewer. Here is what was recorded:

Now I am experiencing additional problems with OL2003. It started doing
automatic send/receives. Also, when I click the Activities tab for a
contact, I get the message - "Outlook cannot display this view. A folder by
this name already exists." Should I just un-install and re-install? What
are the caveats? It's part of a pre-installed Office 2003 on a Dell running
XP?

Uninstalling and reinstalling is unlikely to help. Were I you, I'd create a
new mail profile and recreate the mail account and use a new PST.

If I do create a new profile, what happens to all the data in my old PST.
Can I recover it? I have seen that there are some third-party Outlook repair
tools available. Are any recommendable?

Nothing.

Can I recover it?

Certainly, if the old PST is still usable. Open it in the new mail profile
from within Outlook with File>Open>Outlook Data File and copy the data in it
to the new PST.

I've never had to use any, so can't recommend any.

Brian,

Correction. The new profile did cure my latter 2 problems. I'm
guessing it took some time for the new indexes to build? Anyway, thanks for
your help.
However, I still have the original problem with received messages from a
specific sender making OL2003 crash when I try to open them.
Any ideas?

Thank you again,

Is it any particular type of message (HTML vs. Plain Text) or all messages
from one person? Did you try safe mode?

T

TCol

Brian,

I tried using Safe Mode, but it had no effect. I went to the website
of the sender and changed my subscription to receive plain text instead of
HTML. That seems to have "fixed" the problem.
Thanks very much for all of your help.
